During the season, TRR was noted two things about UVa: (1) The guards are better than anyone else's and (2) their lack of post play will kill them in the post season. On Friday, the Wolfpack trio of Grant, Costner, and McCauley combined to score 54 points against the UVa frontline in a game where NC State shot an effective field goal of 62%.
As usual, Sean Singletary was the top player on the court with 23 points, but RJ Reynolds had a poor shooting night and the Wahoos could not find a third scoring option. NC State's offense was efficient with 17 assists on 25 field goals. After trailing by 14 at the half, NC State scored a season high 53 points in the last twenty minutes as Costner and Grant both got hot at the same time.
We can't see NC State going much further, but their next two games are against teams they beat this season (Virginia Tech and likely, UNC). We would assume that their 6 man rotation will get them on Saturday against the athletic Hokie squad. We would love to see Mr. Costner begin to get a little more press nationally as one of the country's top freshman.
