UNC Dominates...73-58

UNC held Al Thornton to 12 points as UNC advanced over FSU. UNC was paced by their three heralded freshman who all scored in double figures on Friday. The game was fairly even with a 21-17 score with 7 minutes left in the first half. UNC closed the half with a 15-9 run and FSU could never get back in striking distance.

Clemson Loses Steam...and an NCAA Bid

By Michael

The game was a microcosm of the Tiger season: start strong and fade down the stretch. Florida State took advantage of a fluke over-and-back violation and a fortunate call in the closing seconds to beat Clemson 67-66 in the first round of the ACC Conference Tournament.

Maryland Knocks FSU Cold, Wins 4th in a Row

By Michael

After being tied at 31 at half, Maryland outscored Florida State 42-24 in the second half to defeat the Seminoles 73-55. The victory is Maryland's fourth in a row in conference play, moves them to 7-6 in conference and 21-7 overall, and solidifies their NCAA Tournament chances. In contrast, FSU drops to 5-9 in conference and, barring a miracle in the ACC Conference Tournament, the Seminoles have waved a NCAA bid goodbye. Even with Al Thornton, FSU is clearly a different team without Tony Douglas.

Virginia Uses Timely Three Point Shooting to Down FSU

By Michael

Both Virginia and Florida State rely on the three point shot. Nearly 39 percent of all Cavalier field goal attempts and 33 percent of Florida State attempts are threes, the first and third highest ratios in conference, respectively. Today, Virgina was better from deep, making 12 of 26 three point attempts and receiving a season high 17 points on 5 made threes from Adrian Joseph. That was enough to hold off a late charging Florida State 73-70

Tech Finally Ends Road Losing Streak….

Georgia Tech got a much needed road victory Tuesday night at Tallahassee against FSU, 63-57. Tech was able to get FSU’s post players in foul trouble (Al Thornton fouled out in the last few minutes) and forced FSU into a complete perimeter game. Both team’s offenses sputtered, but Javaris Crittenton was able to carry the Jackets with 29 points and add more confusion to the ACC post-season picture.

BC 68, FSU 67: Gritty, Great Game for Both Teams

by David

So five minutes into the second half my five-year old son informs me that he is rooting for Florida St. While I pondered the fate of his inheritance, BC and FSU played a great game. With every layup he cheered and I added something else to the two-year old's inheritance list. It had everything you wanted: drama, a BC comeback to take the lead, then a run by FSU to reclaim it, and last second shots. Finally, a local boy hits a shot to beat his area college team. They make movies about this kind of thing. (In fact, I hear Disney may be prepared to sue BC and Florida State for copyright violation.)

BC Grinds It Out, Beats FSU at the Buzzer

By David

Al Skinner is a model of composure on the sidelines at all times, and clearly his team is taking notice. Sean Marshall (22 points, 10 rebounds) drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to give BC the 85-82 win over visiting Florida State.

Stetson Fits: Florida State 82, Stetson 63

Florida State (6-2) followed their victory over Florida by jumping on Stetson (3-6) from the tip, opening a 50-28 halftime lead and cruising to an easy victory. The Seminoles dominated in every category, shooting 53 percent from the field, 79 percent from the line, out rebounding the Hatters, and notching 18 assists versus only 13 turnovers.

TRR’s Projected Order of Finish in the ACC.

1. NORTH CAROLINA. Roy Williams and company simply have too much firepower. The key will be getting the youth up to speed. Ellington, Wright, and Lawson surrounding ACC MVP Hansbrough will be too much for opponents to handle.

Postseason destination: NCAA final four or better.
