TRR Player of the Year in the ACC: Al Thornton, FSU

Our Comments:

When the ballots were counted, were in near-unanimity with our first and second team selections. We believe Jamon Gordon should get a place on the second team due to his defensive abilities, though we could see how others may have Crittenton or Strawberry here. TRR believes that all-conference selections are often weighted towards offensive production and we, therefore, politely disagree. Gordon's defense was key in slowing down Duke, Virginia, and North Carolina.

As for player of the year, it came down to Dudley and Thornton. In ACC conference games, Thornton averaged 23.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, shot 52 percent from the floor, and 82 percent from the line. The points per game and rebounds were both conference bests. Dudley averaged 19.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 57 percent shooting from the floor. Dudley also had a load of double-doubles.

So it was close, but we gave the nod to Al Thornton.
