Al Skinner is a model of composure on the sidelines at all times, and clearly his team is taking notice. Sean Marshall (22 points, 10 rebounds) drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to give BC the 85-82 win over visiting Florida State.
Tyrese Rice (26 points, 6 assists) and Jared Dudley (23 points, 6 rebounds) also made significant contributions. The Eagles went 7 for 18 from 3 point land. The Northern Branch of TRR is excited to see a recommendation we made in our last column taken to heart. Without the phsyical presence of Sean Williams on the inside the Eagles will need to open up the interior for Dudley by long range shooting.
FSU forward Al Thornton (22 points, 8 rebounds) had a great performance, shooting 50% from the field and 9 for 9 from the charity stripe, including a pair of free throws with under a minute left to give the Seminoles the lead. In fact, all starters for FSU were in double digits for scoring.
I do not know if this can be called an upset, but it shows that the Eagles cannot be expected to roll over for the rest of the season. They have enough conference wins to keep themselves in the mix for an NCAA berth come March. BC moved to 6-1 in conference play while FSU fell to 2-4.
Now the Eagles go to Cameron on Sunday so call that a loss. I think the key is how they do at home against Va. Tech in the next conference game. If they can come out of these two games with a split they are still a viable NCAA team.
My Dad suggested BC would have integrity points coming to them if they could get the W's in order, regardless of who they lost to over the season. I did not have the time to discuss whether the NCAA had integrity enough to spare some points for BC so we will have to save that discussion for another day.
