BC has their own Marshall Plan: Sean Marshall. He had another 20 point performance as the Eagles coasted to their 19 point victory over Miami. The other nod goes to Tyrese Rice, who had 16 points and 12 assists. Thank god this wasn’t at Miami or the announcers might have been going nuts, “You can’t come in here and do that. They’re lucky I’m not down there.” I can’t believe that I am missing ACC football.
BC shot 54.5% from the field. That’s not a misprint folks. I officially nominate the Canes for TRR’s Matador Defense of the Week Award. Miami wasted a really nice performance from Dwayne Collins (24 points, 13 rebounds), but only one other player on the team shot 50% or better (Raymond Hicks went 1 for 2 in four minutes). Yay team!!!
The emergence of Marshall is a key for BC if they hope to continue their early ACC success. The Eagles relied too much on Dudley’s production to carry them and Tyrese Rice is still too young to carry that load, but watch out for him in the future. With big man Sean Williams hitting free throws and blocking shots the Eagles are becoming a team few will want to face.
If you picked BC and Va. Tech to be sitting pretty at this point of the season I say you are lying. Both have placed themselves in good position, though Va. Tech gets my nod right now since they have already beaten Duke and the Tar Heels. Next up for BC is Clemson. I am waiting to see what happens against Carolina before I make up my mind about how the Eagles will do. If there are any doubts about interior defense, and I hear some rumors, then the Eagles may have a good chance at Clemson this weekend.
Note: Someone mentioned to the northern branch of TRR that there was no entry for the BC-Yale game. Here is my take on that game: Ivy league-shmivey league!
