UNC held Al Thornton to 12 points as UNC advanced over FSU. UNC was paced by their three heralded freshman who all scored in double figures on Friday. The game was fairly even with a 21-17 score with 7 minutes left in the first half. UNC closed the half with a 15-9 run and FSU could never get back in striking distance.

Teams that win on Thursday have to deal with tired legs on Friday, and FSU looked a step slow all day on Friday. Thornton had a few good looks, but his shots were not falling. FSU shot 31% from the field with 17 turnovers. That kind of shooting and efficiency will not get it done against the Heels. For Carolina, Williams can't be happy with 19 turnovers and the mask had a negative effect on Hansbrough. He only got off 6 shots, so UNC has some long term concern for this tournament and the next. TRR was glad to see impressive performances by Ellington and Lawson in their first ACC tourney appearance. UNC has a pretty good path to the title with Maryland eliminated on Thursday.
